Meet the Maker: Brighton Lace
Posted on 3rd August 2016
Another fortnight, another talented maker! In Part 7 of our ‘Meet the Maker’ interviews as part of our Handmade Season at Flock we’re learning all about the design process behind Brighton Lace lingerie from the lovely Louisa Michel:
Who are the Brighton Lace team?
We are a small all-women team based here in Brighton. At the moment there are three of us but it looks we might be expanding soon.
How long have you been running your label and how did you begin?
We started in the summer of 2014, it’s amazing to realise it’s two years exactly this August!
What is your making process?
Sometimes we start with the design, other times we see a gorgeous lace and dream up something new according to the width and style of the fabric.
What is your favourite shade out of all the lace you have dyed?
I’m in love with our Lilac and Ice Blue at the moment – it’s really electric and summery.
Which is your most popular piece with Flock customers?
I think it has to be the Lavender and Blueberry set – we are really proud of that two-tone colour way – we dye all the lace ourselves and it’s lovely to see our customers enjoy each season’s new hues.
Do you offer customised pieces?
We do offer custom sizing but tend to stick to our original designs.
Where do you work?
We all work from our different home workshops and desks – you could say Brighton Lace is a cottage industry
